Obasanjo Bemoans State Of The Nation

Olusegun Obasanjo, Former President of Nigeria has again taken a swipe at the Goodluck Jonathan administration over what he described as attempts to encourage violence in the country.

“As a leader you must not deliberately do evil or condone evil. You should know that you will one day give account to God, you may cover up here, but before God, there is no cover up,” he said.

The former President said it amounts to destruction of democracy for any government to be seen trying to frustrate opposing parties from all fronts.

The former President made the assertion on Wednesday at the launch of a book written by Justice Mustapha Akanbi, pioneer chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Offences Commission, ICPC in Abuja.

Expressing discontent over the current state of the nation, Obasanjo said, “When the head is rotten, the whole body is useless.”

The former President also said that those in power should be mindful of the fact that negative utterances as it is being traded in the country today could degenerate into physical violence.

Therefore, Obasanjo advised that the management of democracy without resorting to brute force and dictatorial tendencies must be cultivated.

You would recall that Obasanjo had last week rated the current administration below average while addressing journalists in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital during the Ake Arts and Book Festival.
