NIMET Enhances Aviation Safety

In the last two years, the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, NIMET, and the Accident Investigation and Prevention Bureau, AIPB, have implemented several projects that have enhanced safety and security in the Nigeria’s aviation industry. Some of these are the installation of Doppler Weather Radar and the Calibrated Meteorological Instrument, which are used to detect and track hazardous weather systems on real-time basis and guarantees weather data reliability.

Yakubu Dati, spokesperson, aviation parastatals, explained that the instruments have guaranteed accurate, timely weather forecasts and measurements. “We have met ICAO standard and pilots now obtain accurate and reliable weather information prior to every flight out of any Nigerian airport. Now, the AIPB is now able to download, extract, decode and analyse the aircraft accident data from the CVR and Black Boxes thus saving time and money, speeding up the investigation process and upgrading the skills of our aircraft accident investigation,” he disclosed.
