Nigerians in Diaspora Seek Voting Rights

Nigerians residing abroad have charged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, with the task of making provisions for Diaspora Voting. They say this is meant to ensure that the right of Nigerians living abroad is safeguarded.

Gabriel Okoye, a delegate of Nigerians in the Diaspora at the ongoing National Conference, made the request while reacting to President Goodluck Jonathan’s address to the conference in Abuja.

Okoye maintained that there is no difference between Nigerians living in the Diaspora and those in the country, in as much as whatever happens in the country affects all Nigerians irrespective of where they live.

He stressed the importance of accommodating the Diaspora community in national development saying that the country can gain a lot from those who live outside the country.

Okoye also called on Nigerians to have the love of the country at large on their minds rather than embracing ethnicity, to achieve significant development in the country
