The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Football Federation, NFF, has disqualified three major aspirants for the post of the President of the football federation.
Those disqualified are Segun Odegbami, ex-Nigerian international and 1980 Nations Cup winner; Taiwo Ogunjobi, also an ex-international and suspended member of the NFF executive committee; and Victor Umeh, current Acting Chairman of the Federation.
Amoni Biambo, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, said Odegbami was disqualified due to his failure to attach the receipt of his intent form when he submitted his form. Biambo explained that Umeh was disqualified because the form he submitted for his bid to contest for the presidency was meant for the position of the vice president while Ogunjobi was exempted because of his failure to withdraw his suit against the Federation.
Umeh, who was the First Vice President of the Federation before he was made the Acting President following the dismissal of Aminu Maigari former NFF President, was seeking to contest for the vice presidency before the presidency position became vacant.
Maigari reportedly collected the form of intent, but did not submit.
The disqualification of the trio leaves Felix Obuah and Chris Giwa, owner of the Nigerian Premier League side, Giwa FC as the candidates for the President of theNFF except if those disqualified find favour with the appeals committee.
The NFF elections are scheduled for August 26.
