The Nigeria Bar Association, NBA, Ikeja branch has indicted the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State of mobilizing hundreds of its supporters to disrupt court proceedings at the Ado Ekiti High Court on September 22 and 25.
The association said “…the Peoples Democratic Party mobilized hundreds of party supporters to the Ado Ekiti High Court on Monday 22 September and Thursday 25 September, 2014.”
The association said it arrived at the conclusion after its four-man fact finding committee had worked with the concerned stakeholders including Rotimi Akeredolu, lead counsel to the All Progressives Congress, APC; Obafemi Adewale, lead counsel to PDP; Joseph Omodele Adewumi, NBA Chairman, Ado Ekiti brance among others on the matter.
The association also accused the Nigeria Police of complicity for not preventing the attack on the Justice O.I.O Ogunyemi led tribunal that resulted in assault on him and the destruction of court records.
Addressing reporters at the association’s secretariat at Ikeja, yesterday Yinka Farounbi, chairman of the branch, said the association demands an immediate prosecution of anybody found culpable of instigating the fracas. The report presented by the committee however, said Fayose did not join in the assault but did not stop his followers.
