Oyibe Jibrin, Chief of Naval Staff, has appealed to concerned authorities to provide more funding for the force in order to enable it carry out its statutory functions effectively.
Jibrin made the appeal on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of activities marking the 59th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy in Lagos.
The naval boss reiterated the commitment of the Navy to fight against insurgents in the country, particularly in the north-east.
The Nigerian Navy has continued to tackle oil theft in the nation’s oil-rich Niger Delta region on a daily basis; a task that the force said it needed more equipment and fund to tackle.
The Navy also pledged to remain committed to watching the nation’s waterways to prevent insurgents from entering the nation.
Part of the events organised to mark the 59th Anniversary of the Nigerian Navy was a visit to the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs camp in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
While addressing some of the IDPs at the Kuchingoro Camp in Abuja, Jibrin advised residents of the camp to be security conscious and report unusual happenings in their environment to security agencies.
The Navy also assured the IDPs of its determination to win the fight against insurgency and make the country safe for every resident.
