KWAM1 Faces Possible Terrorism Charge as NCAA Slams Six-Month Flight Ban After Airport Runway Incident

Fuji legend Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM1, is at the center of a growing aviation controversy that could see him face terrorism-related charges and up to five years in prison.

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has imposed a six-month flight ban on the musician, warning that any airline found flying him within the period will have its license suspended. The pilot involved in the incident has also been suspended for one month, with his license temporarily withdrawn.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) have been formally petitioned to investigate and prosecute KWAM1. This comes after the singer was accused of attempting to block a ValueJet aircraft from taking off at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja — an act that aviation insiders say could be classified as an attempted plane hijack.

KWAM1 has yet to comment on the fresh developments, although he initially denied standing in front of the moving aircraft. The NCAA and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) are continuing investigations to determine how the singer accessed the runway, how his bottle — suspected to contain alcohol — bypassed security checks, whether his claim of being assaulted holds water, and whether the pilot had proper clearance to begin taxiing.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have taken to social media to demand the singer’s arrest, describing his behavior as gross misconduct and an attempt to hold a plane hostage. Many also question the speed with which the pilot’s suspension was enforced, compared to the delay in decisive action against the Fuji star.
