Kano Offers 100 Indigent Students Scholarships

Musa Gambo, deputy director, Ministry of Education, Kano State, has said that 100

indigent students have been awarded scholarship by the state government to study first degree programmes at the Bell University, Ota, Ogun State.

Gambo said the scholarship is estimated to cost the state government N120 million annually. He emphasized that the scholarship is based on merit, because various universities were invited to conduct test for the students and only those that passed the test were given the scholarship.

He stated that the scholarship becomes imperative because all the institutions in the state cannot absorb all the students seeking admission.

Gambo added that the government had undergraduate students in other three private universities namely: Crescent University, Ogun State, American University of Nigeria, Yola, and Igbinedion University, Benin City, Edo State.

“The undergraduate students in all the four private universities were performing up to expectation of the Kano State Government because they are one of the best students in their various departments,” he said.

He also said that the state government is making efforts to enlighten the students on the need to shun joining the insurgent group, Boko Haram. “An educated person will be difficult to be convinced to join Boko Haram, because he or she is enlightened to know what is wrong and what is right,” he asserted.
