India, China, Nigeria Emerge Most Populous Nations

As the world marks World population day today, India, China, Nigeria have been identified as countries with the largest population in the world.

Although a report by the Population Division of the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations, UN, could not actually state the total population of the world, it however said the urban population has increased from 746 million in 1950 to 3.9 billion in 2014.

The report also stated that 54 percent of the world’s total population live in urban areas and the number is expected to outgrow 66 percent by 2050.

Tokyo is rated top of the list as the world’s largest city with 38 million residents.

The UN projection declared that the increasing growth rate of India, China and Nigeria would account for 37 percent of the world’s urban population.

The report also predicts an autonomous increase by 2050 with India topping the chart with 404 million urban inhabitants; China: 292 million city population while Nigeria came third with 212 million urban dwellers.
