Apparently making political capital out of the tragic accident involving the campaign convoy of his political archrival for the coveted seat of the governor of Edo State, which claimed the lives of five persons on Thursday, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Dr. Asue Ighodalo, on Friday evening, seized the initiative to pay a condolence visit to the family of one of the victims, Emmanuel Edionwe.
Monday Okpebholo, senator representing Edo Central senatorial district at the National Assembly, and candidate of the All-Progressives Congress, APC, for the September 21 governorship election in the state, was yet to visit any of the families to commiserate with them for their losses.
Edionwe and four of his friends were crushed to death on Warrake Road around Uzebba axis in Owan West Local Government Area in Edo State, leaving the families of the deceased traumatized and devastated.
The victims were said to be returning from a burial ceremony when Okpebholo’s convoy rammed into their silver Camry car at Warrake Road in Owan East local government area, causing their untimely death. The bodies of five of the deceased victims were deposited at the Edo State University, Uzairue mortuary, in Etsako West local government area.
During his visit to the Edionwe family home in the suburb of Benin City, Ighodalo met with the mother of the deceased, who was visibly distraught over the painful loss of her son. He expressed his deep condolences over the painful loss of her son. He also spoke over the phone with Emmanuel’s father, who lives in the Diaspora. He wished the father God’s comfort as the family navigates the very difficult time.
Positing that no words could adequately express the pain of losing a loved one, Dr. Ighodalo consoled and prayed with the family, seeking God’s divine strength for them in their mourning.
Ighodalo also had a moment with Emmanuel’s elder sister who was with him at the hospital the night before he died. The sister, still broken by the shock of the tragic incident, shared with the PDP candidate some of her last moments with her late brother.
An emotional Ighodalo prayed that God comforted the families of the deceased and grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
