Ifeanyi Nwoye Emerges Enugu Deputy Governor

Ralph Nwoye, Clergy of the Christ Ascension Church has been appointed and sworn in as the new deputy governor of Enugu State, a source from the State House, Enugu says.

The letter of his nomination for appointment by Sullivan Chime, the state governor was read to members of the Enugu State House of Assembly by Eugene Odoh, the Speaker, on Thursday and was unanimously accepted by the lawmakers.

The office of the deputy governor became vacant last Tuesday when Sunday Onyebuchi, the deputy governor, was impeached by the State House of Assembly for operating a poultry farm within the compound of the State House.

Section 191, sub section 3 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria empowers the governor to appoint anybody deemed qualified for the position, subject to the approval of the State House of Assembly.

It was gathered that on the request of John Anichukwu, a House member, Nwoye was only asked to take a bow.
