Veteran Nollywood actress Moji Afolayan has stirred intense reactions online after boldly revealing during a live interview that she was blacklisted in the Nigerian film industry because she refused to exchange sexual favours for movie roles. Speaking candidly on Oyinmomo TV, the respected actress said, “I was blacklisted because I refused to trade my body for movie roles. Many of my colleagues are engaging in such practices, and I’m saying this openly with my full chest.”

Afolayan, the daughter of legendary filmmaker Adeyemi ‘Adelove’ Afolayan, disclosed that film marketers held a meeting and agreed to stop offering her roles after she turned down their inappropriate demands. She also exposed what she described as a disturbing trend in Nollywood, alleging that some actresses, including married women, secretly submit to such offers to maintain their relevance in the industry.

According to her, while others may have compromised their values for fame and opportunities, she stood firm in her convictions. “I value my body. I held on to my virginity. I wasn’t ready to give in to their advances, and I paid the price,” she said, adding that her stance has set her apart from her peers today.

The emotional and explosive revelation has since gone viral on social media, with many Nigerians applauding her courage and integrity. Supporters flooded platforms like Twitter and Instagram, hailing her as a role model for younger actresses navigating the pressures of the entertainment world.

Moji Afolayan also used the moment to issue a passionate warning to up-and-coming talents in the industry, urging them not to allow desperation for fame to compromise their dignity or long-term success. Her words have sparked a renewed call for structural reform in Nollywood, with many advocating for stricter protections for actors and a cleaner, merit-based system of casting.

As reactions continue to pour in, Moji Afolayan’s powerful message has not only reignited conversations about exploitation in Nollywood but has also cemented her legacy as one of the few who chose integrity over compromise in the face of industry pressure.
