The People’s Democratic Party, PDP screening committee in Adamawa State has disqualified the acting governor, Ahmad Umaru Fintiri from contesting the party’s primaries slated for September 6 ahead of the October 11 governorship by election in the state.
Rising from the exercise which lasted about nine hours, Ibrahim Nasir Mantu, former deputy Senate president and Chairman of the panel said the committee based its decision on the stipulations of Section 191, sub-section 2 of the amended 1999 Constitution, referring to Fintiri as a child of circumstance.
However, thirteen other aspirants including Nuhu Ribadu, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC were cleared to participate in the next month’s primaries.
The office of the governor of Adamawa State became vacant on July 15, 2014 when Murtala Nyako former governor of the state was impeached by the state assembly over gross financial misconduct and abuse of office.
