Olu Falae
A former secretary to Government of the Federation and national chairman of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, Olu Falae, has been kidnapped. The 77-year-old politician was reportedly kidnapped from his residence Akure residence on Tuesday. Falae served as secretary to the military government of Ibrahim Babangida from January 1986 to December 1990 and as Finance Minister in 1990, and was a former presidential candidate of the joint ticket Alliance for Democracy and All People’s Party against Olusegun Obasanjo of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in 1999. In its reaction, the Social Democratic Party, SDP condemned the abduction. Oke Idawene, Chairman Delta State chapter of SDP, described Falae’s kidnap as a “very sad situation” and a “dehumanizing trauma after all his good works for Nigeria”. Idawene appealed to the abductors to set their captive free. He also urged the security agents to go the extra mile to secure his release.
