With few days to the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, the immediate past national President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Rev. Felix Omobude, on Thursday, advised the people to vote their conscience and be guided by the track records of the contestants based on their profiles and credibility.
In a short live broadcast to the people particularly targeted at the Christian community, Rev. Omobude, the General Superintendent of New Covenant Gospel Church with headquarter in Benin City, reminded them that only votes, and not prayers, are counted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He therefore advised those who did not have voter cards, or were not registered, to obtain one to take advantage of the opportunity democracy offers in choosing their leaders. The man of God urged them to resist any form of intimidation.
Omobude said during the broadcast: “My dear good people of Edo state, I greet you all wherever you are. Democracy offers us opportunity to participate in a process of choosing who governs us. Such opportunity is right on our doorstep, and I know especially our faith community are praying for good governance; we have been praying for progress, and we have been praying for peace.
“And this is applauded; but unfortunately, INEC does not count prayers; INEC count votes, and if you don’t have voter card and you have not registered, I enjoin you, please do so and take advantage of the opportunity that democracy offers us.
“This time around, we must show the world that Edo people are knowledgeable and politically enlightened. No intimidation; don’t give yourself to any intimidation. Vote your values and vote your conscience.”
