Former deputy whip of the House of Representatives, and two-term member of the Edo State House of Assembly, Samson Raphael Osagie, is the new Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice in the state.
Osagie was cleared by the state House of Assembly on Wednesday following his nomination by Governor Monday Okpebholo on Tuesday, few hours after his swearing-in.
The clearance of Cyril Oshiomhole, a medical doctor and Commissioner of health-designate, was however deferred till Monday, November 18, 2024, the Assembly’s next plenary.
Dr. Oshiomhole, 44, is the first son of Senator Adams Oshiomhole, an ex-governor of the state and former national chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
At plenary, the Clerk of the House, Audu Yahaya Omogbai, had read out the two names of the commissioner nominees.
Reacting to the list, the Speaker, Blessing Sheriff Agbebaku, acknowledged Osagie’s cognitive experience, having served in various capacities, including two terms in the state and National Assembly.
Agbebaku said the decision to clear Osagie was part of the privileges enjoyed by the former lawmaker who would now serve as Attorney General of the state.
The Assembly also passed a motion urging the state government and security agencies to address rising kidnappings, cultism, and other related criminal activities in the state.
