Some youths of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State said they have begun mobilization across the state for Chris Ogiemwonyi, an engineer and former minister of state for works to ensure that he clinches the governorship ticket of the party on June 22, 2020, the scheduled date for the party’s primary election. The youths were excited that Ogiemwonyi could now participate in the primaries after an initial setback following the emergence of Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the consensus aspirant of the faction of the party loyal to the national chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole.
Describing Ogiemwonyi as the best candidate that is easily marketable, the youths who spoke under the aegis of APC Youths for Justice and Development (AYOJD), said they have begun mass mobilisation of APC members across the state for Ogiemwonyi. President of AYOJD, Bagudu Momoh, in a press statement in Auchi, headquarters of Estako West local government area of the state, said it was initially shocking to them that Ogiemwonyi stepped down from the race.
Extolling the good qualities of the governorship aspirant, Momoh noted that he had touched the lives of many APC members stressing that the party primaries would be an opportunity to thank him.
According to him, “We urge our members across the state to nominate Ogiemwonyi. He is a man of integrity. A man that has no blemish to his name. Ogiemwonyi is a man that knows what party loyalty means; a man that has respect for the good, the bad, the ugly, the young and the old”.
They asserted that “Edo needs a man who has respect for all calibres of persons no matter their status. A man who knows what human capital and infrastructural developments actually mean. A man of the people, a man who loves to see the youths gainfully employed and kept off the streets. A man who, before now, has always empowered women and will continue to; a liberal man and a true democrat. And above all, a man who has the fear of God. This is the kind of man Edo State needs as governor.”
