In a bid to collaborate and tap from each other’s knowledge, Covenant University and Redeemer’s University, both private religious institutions in Nigeria, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, MoU. The move will allow students of both universities explore opportunities and scholarly publications and would also allow for joint sponsorship of conferences, workshops and research by the two universities. At the event heralding the partnership, Debo Adeyewa, Vice-Chancellor, Redeemer’s University, revealed that the two universities, had, for sometime now, been working on possible areas of collaboration.“The two universities have been brain storming on the areas to partner in for a while,” said Adeyewa. He expressed joy that the dream has come to pass and added that the two universities will not compete, but complement each other. Charles Ayo, Covenant University’s Vice-Chancellor, on his part said the MoU is in line with Covenant University’s vision of becoming one of the top 10 universities in the world by the year 2022. “We have two universities coming together today and it is one of the best things to happen in the Nigerian University system. We expect to see a development of ideas from this relationship in the form of research and collaborations. There is need to put on our thinking caps in order to create solutions to the myriad of issues facing Nigeria. We need to cultivate development focused education in order to address these issues, advance the cause of Nigerian universities and harness the essence of our education,” said Ayo. Those present at the event include Olamide Olusegun, Covenant University’s registrar who delivered the opening remark; Taiwo Abioye, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Covenant University; K. S. Adekeye, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Redeemer’s University; Olawande Daramola, Director, Academic Planning Unit, Covenant University among others.
