COSON Honours Members

The Copyright Society of Nigeria,  COSON, on Sunday, November  5, organised a music award. The event, which held at the Eko Hotels, Lagos attracted many of the country’s  musicians from the old and new generation. Tony Okoroji, chairman of  COSON Board, said the event was the culmination of the past eight weeks involving COSON which included lecture session and street walk all of which was designed to create harmony as one family and  build a better Nigeria. He likened the trophies to be given to  a popular bird, ‘Awoko’ which sings.
The award was in five categories. The best love song of the year was  won by Tjan(Iyawo mi aduke). The best colabo song of the year was awarded to Solidstar featuring Orisafemi.Tthe best song in melody of  the year  was won by Humble Smith Osinachi. Don Pedro aka M.C Don, won the COSON sport week while Posthumous awards were given to  Dan Maraya Jos and Stephen Osita Osadebe. Chris Ajilo and Sir Shina Peters were awarded evergreen song.
Delighted, Don asked artists not to give up on their dreams.
Conel Dolvia, one of those who graced the event, urged the government to create an enebling environment for music to thrive.  He said that entertainment industry provides  75%  employment for Nigerian youth.
In his assessment of old and current generation of musicians, Akporero Henry,  manager of SK Worldwide Entertainment, said the new generation artistes are not as good as their old counterparts. Noting that the likes of Raskimono and Osadebe, “gave us songs that gives us joy,” not much of that, he said, is true of today’s muscians. Among the musicians who graced the event are Professor Victor Uwaifo, Shina Peters and Azeezat. The latter performed on stage to the delight of the audience.
