The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, released names of 14 presidential candidates preparing to contest in the forthcoming election. Some of the candidates also met to sign to an understanding to maintain the peace before, during and after the exercise. Then for the cameras, President Goodluck Jonathan hugged Muhammadu Buhari, retired general and his major challenger. That commitment to peace is a great fillip.
But at TELL we do not go with the crowd. Weeks ago, we did an appraisal on Buhari, asking to know if he would be capable of changing Nigeria. The following week, we had to look at the chances of the President. Adejuwon Soyinka, deputy general editor, who crafted last week’s story got the mandate of the Editorial Board to X-ray Jonathan. Soyinka considers the promises of the President in 2011 with his achievements so far. The story is ‘Can He Be Second Term Lucky?’
The second special report is the story on the booming business of modern photography. The story, Why Photography Is Hot Cake, is written by Stella Sawyerr, associate editor.
