Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has approved a groundbreaking ₦104,000 minimum wage for civil servants, surpassing Nigeria’s current ₦70,000 national benchmark.
The announcement, made in Owerri on Tuesday, comes amid rising inflation and the economic strain of fuel subsidy removal. Alongside the new wage structure, doctors in Imo will now earn ₦533,000 monthly, while lecturers’ salaries have been increased to ₦222,000.
Governor Uzodimma also revealed ongoing efforts to address ₦65 billion in pension arrears through comprehensive audits, ensuring transparency and fairness in distribution.
The move has been described as a bold step in worker welfare, placing Imo State at the forefront of labor reforms and potentially influencing wage policies across Nigeria.
