As part of efforts to empower communities in order to create a positive change in the high rate of poverty in the country, the Nigeria chapter of ActionAid, an International Non Governmental Organization, dedicated to the eradication of poverty and injustice in the world on Thursday, July 24, launched its community development initiative program at the City Hall, Lagos Island.
The launch was a public presentation of the NGO’s new standardized approach of deploying individual participation in community development in Nigeria.
According to the NGO, the initiative provides an opportunity for selfless Nigerians to play a greater role in ensuring that all Nigerians have equal opportunity of living a dignified life.
It also said that it is working to scale up interventions in poor and excluded communities in the country across six broad areas, which include, Democracy and Governance, Health, Education, Food and Agriculture, Human Security and Women’s Rights.
Dr. Hussaini Abdu, the Country Director of ActionAid in Nigeria said the purpose of the community sponsorship initiative is to create a dynamic movement that will help push the economic, civil and societal rights of the poor and excluded in the society.
“This initiative provides a unique opportunity for ordinary Nigerians to partake in the development of the country through an organization that has both a local and global reputation for displaying the highest levels of transparency and accountability” Abdu said.
ActionAid is a non-governmental organization working with the poor with the purpose of promoting values and commitment in civil society, institutions and governments with the aim of achieving structural changes in order to eradicate poverty and injustice in the world.Follow Us on Social Media
