Retired Commissioner of Police Muhammad Wakili, popularly known as “Singham”, has sparked fresh outrage with a shocking confession about a massive drug seizure made under his watch in Kano State.

Speaking out years after leaving office, Wakili revealed that just three days before his retirement in May 2019, his team seized hard drugs worth nearly three billion naira. However, to his greatest surprise, he claims he has never received any official information on what became of the huge consignment.

“Three days before I retired in Kano, I seized hard drugs worth nearly three billion naira. But up till now, I have not received any information on what was done with the drugs. Some people even said the drugs were released and returned to those who owned them,” the former police chief stated.

Wakili earned nationwide fame during his tenure as Commissioner of Police in Kano for his fearless war against drug abuse and thuggery. Residents gave him the nickname “Singham” because of his no-nonsense approach, which saw him aggressively raiding drug joints and arresting peddlers who were openly selling hard drugs on the streets like everyday commodities.

His retirement on 24th May 2019 came after a remarkable period where many praised his efforts to clean up Kano from the drug epidemic that had affected thousands of youths.

The former CP’s latest revelation has now raised serious questions about the handling and accountability of high-value drug exhibits in Nigeria. Despite the enormous street value of the seizure, Wakili says he remains in the dark about whether the drugs were destroyed, transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), or quietly released as alleged by some sources.

This development has triggered widespread concern among Nigerians, especially as Kano continues to battle drug trafficking and abuse. Many are now calling for an immediate investigation by the Inspector-General of Police and other relevant authorities to establish the true fate of the ₦3 billion worth of hard drugs.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigeria Police Force nor the NDLEA has issued any official statement responding to Wakili’s claims.

The story has already begun trending on social media, with citizens demanding full transparency in the country’s fight against drug barons. Many wonder if the drugs eventually found their way back into circulation, undermining years of anti-narcotics efforts.

What do you think really happened to the ₦3 billion drugs? Should there be an independent probe into this matter? Share your views in the comment section below and don’t forget to share this story if you believe in accountability.
