President Muhammadu Buhari has extended the lockdown in Lagos, Ogun states and Abuja for another one week. He said this in his nationwide broadcast on Monday evening. He said an assessment of the lockdown in the last four weeks has shown a great improvement in efforts to curtail the spread of Covid-19. He, however, announced a “night curfew” from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am, beginning from Monday next week. He did not say whether governments in the two states and Abuja may have to consider ensuring early closure at offices so that workers would not be held in traffic thus making them run foul of the curfew. The gradual lifting of the lockdown, according to the president, is to revive economic activities and ensure food security after the pandemic has been defeated. Though he endorsed the inter-state restrictions called for by the governors, to curtail transfer between states, he said movement of food, medicals, and other essential commodities will be allowed. However,  while all states enjoy a partial or graduated lockdown, there will be one exception. The exception is Kano state.  The president announced a total lockdown of Kano State where there had been reports of deaths recently while the only test centre, earlier closed after being infected, reopened on Monday.
